« C’est un appareil singulier, dit l’officier au chercheur qui se trouvait en voyage d’études ». La première phrase de la nouvelle de Kafka Dans la Colonie Pénitentiaire nous permet, à la fois, d’ouvrir un espace de suggestion singulière, induite par Clastres, et de procéder à une opération arbitraire, mais captivante, c’est-à-dire d’interroger la figure et le rôle de l’anthropologue à travers l’analyse d’un texte littéraire. Pour le dire autrement, cela nous permet de renverser les termes et les positions entre un anthropologue (Pierre Clastres) qui parle et qui se sert d’un écrivain et de ses récits et un écrivain (Franz Kafka) qui décrit un « anthropologue » et qui questionne ce qu’être un observateur veut dire.
Abstract :
“It’s a peculiar apparatus, said the Officer to the Traveller”. The reading of the first sentence of the Kafka’s short story In the Penal Colony makes it possible to open a space for an original reflection taken from Clastres. The article proposes an arbitrary but curious experiment. It interrogates the character and the role of the anthropologist through the analysis of a literary text. In other words, the perspective allows us to reverse the terms and the positions between an anthropologist (Pierre Clastres), who talks about and uses a writer and his writings, and the writer (Franz Kafka) describing a kind of anthropologist and questioning the meanings of “being an observer”.
